WESTPORT'S COMMITMENT TO OUR ENVIRONMENT
We all share a responsibility to conserve and protect our natural resources for future generations.
Because buildings deeply impact the environment, both during construction and throughout their life cycle, Westport follows a policy of "Green Building." This is a wide range of land-use, building design, and construction strategies which reduce energy consumption while protecting both ecosystems and building occupants.
The reason for building green? Common sense. You avoid wasting time, money, energy, and materials in your day-to-day business, so why waste any of these when you build? Use of alternative materials and construction techniques produces more environmentally-conscious structures - without sacrificing quality or wasting money.
We are members of the United States Green Building Council and our new offices in Virginia will be a LEED CERTIFIED PROJECT.
Many great things are happening already. Manufacturers are producing ceiling tiles, shingles, brick and other products from recycled materials. There are low VOC paints, energy efficient HVAC systems, solar systems and better methods of construction being developed everyday.
Here at Westport, we encourage our customers to consider the options available for materials which are less harmful to the environment. At Wolf Trap, we installed over seven miles of oak grown in sustainable forests. In the shop we have begun to work with water-based finishes, and we use formaldehyde-free substrates.
